EXPERIENCE THE JOY OF CHORAL SINGING. The Oratorio Society of Queens (OSQ) is a community chorus that welcomes adults and young people of all faiths, ages, ethnic origins and singing ability. We give two primary performances annually: a Holiday Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May presenting musical programs spanning the repertoire from great choral masterpieces, to popular all-time favorites. OSQ rehearsals are held on Monday night from 7:30 pm to 9:45 pm at Temple Beth Sholom located at 172nd Street and Northern Blvd, Flushing.
Did you know that OSQ also has a Student Choral Program for talented high school and college students? (click here for more info).
AUDITIONS
Auditions for the Spring 2025 season will be held on January 13th and January 20th. Please call 718-279-3006 to make an appointment, or for additional information.
THE AUDITION PROCESS
Auditions for membership in the Oratorio Society of Queens consist of singing scales, matching pitches, and some vocalizing. This vocalizing might be a piece you've prepared, or a tune that's familiar to everyone. The choice is yours. This prepared piece can be sung a cappella or with piano accompaniment. If piano accompaniment is required, you must bring the music for the pianist.
All voice parts are welcome and although you are not required to have had formal voice lessons, all members are expected to be able to sing on pitch and in accurate rhythm. Previous choral experience is preferred, but not required.
MEMBERSHIP DUES
OSQ is an independent non-profit corporation registered in New York State. Dues, contributions, grants, ticket sales, journal ads and fundraisers help us sustain ourselves. Dues are $225 for two concert cycles. If you join in September, your dues is for the December Holiday Concert season, and the following May Spring Concert season. Likewise if you join in January, your dues is for the May Spring Concert season, and the December Holiday Concert season. Dues payments are accepted in cash, or by check or credit card, and can be made online, by phone, or in person at rehearsal. Note, there is a $30 fee for returned checks.
The Oratorio Society relies on the generosity of its members and supporters. It is important to participate in solicitations and fundraising events, in addition to your dues payment. Also, check out Matching Grant policies with your employer.
